PRESSURE TO CONFORM Overcoming “Peer Pressure” For Christians of all ages!

Dictionary: “Social pressure by members of one’s peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted.”

“It supersedes the love of our mothers, the threats of our fathers, the wisdom of our grandparents, & even the strength of our own convictions.... When you’re under peer pressure, it’s not important what you do... just so long as everyone else is doing it with you...”

God commanded, “You shall not follow a crowd to do evil” (Exo 23:2). How do we overcome negative peer pressure?

Pressured To Conform Aaron (Exo 32:19-24) Result: He sounded foolish He wasn’t allowed to enter the Promised Land

Pressured To Conform Peter (Matt 26:69-75) Result: He denied Jesus three times He cursed & swore saying He remembered Jesus’ words He wept bitterly He lived with the thought of his denials

Pressured To Conform Jewish rulers (John 12:42-43) Result: Jesus denied them before God & His holy angels (Lk 12:8-9; Matt 10:32-33)

Pressured To Conform Aaron Peter Jewish rulers Refused (afraid) to stand up for truth Refused (afraid) to separate from evildoers & temptation Refused (afraid) to stand-alone

Pressured But Didn’t Conform Noah 2 Pet 2:5; 1 Pet 3:20; Heb 11:7; Gen 6:3, 5-9, 22

Pressured But Didn’t Conform Joshua & Caleb Num 13 & 14

Pressured But Didn’t Conform Jesus Stood up for the word of His father (Jn 8:55) Separated from evildoers & temptation (Jn 7:1-7) Stood alone when He died for us (Isa 53; Heb 9:12)

When Pressured To Conform Consider it an honor to stand with Christ, wear His Name, & bear His burden (1 Pet 4:12-16)

Are You Conforming To Truth? Believe the gospel of Christ John 8:24; 20:30-31; Rom 1:16; 10:10 Repent or turn from your sins Luke 24:46-47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30-31 Confess your faith in Christ Matt 10:32-33; Rom 10:9-10 Be immersed in water Matt 28:19; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38; Rom 6:3-4; 1 Pet 3:21 Live in obedient faith 1 Peter 1:14; Rev 2:10
