True love for and obedience to God’s Word St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, September 5 th

Welcome to St. Peter! Faithfulness and obedience to the Word of the Lord are not only logical consequences of faith but necessary fruits that grow in and from hearts redeemed and renewed by the gospel. The Scripture readings for today emphasize with equal force that the basis for all faithfulness must be the Word of God and that all God-pleasing obedience must begin in the heart. May we always say with the psalmist, “Lord, how I love your law”!

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Prayer before Worship Lord God, give me strength and willingness to say with your Son, “Not my will but your will be done.” Make me cheerful and trusting to bear whatever you let happen to me. From your hand I am willing to take the good and the bad, the joy and the sorrow. Keep me from sin, gracious Father, and comfort me with your kind Word. Let me never forgot how your Word “is sweeter than honey” and “a light for my path.” Amen.

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

True love for & obedience to God’s Word St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, September 5 th

Blessed Jesus, at Your Word CW #221 Verse 1-4 Text: Tobias Clausnitzer, (st. 1-3) Geistreiches Gesang-Büchlein, Berlin, 1707 (st. 4) Setting: LIEBSTER JESU, WIR SIND HIER Tune: Johann R. Ahle, , alt.

Verse 1: Blessed Jesus, at your Word We are gathered all to hear you. Let our hearts and souls be stirred Now to seek and love and fear you, By your teachings, sweet and holy, Drawn from earth to love you solely.

Verse 2: All our knowledge, sense, and sight Lie in deepest darkness shrouded Till your Spirit breaks our night With the beams of truth unclouded. You alone to God can win us; You must work all good within us.

Verse 3: Gracious Savior, good and kind, Light from Light, from God proceeding, Open now our heart and mind; Help us by your Spirit's pleading. Hear the cry your people raises; Hear and bless our prayers and praises.

Verse 4 (Please Rise): Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Praise to you and adoration! Grant that we your word may trust, Confident of our salvation. While we here below must wander, Till we sing your praises yonder.

Opening Verses Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. All: And also with you.

Confession of Sin Pastor: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and to serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.

Confession of Sin All: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child.

Confession of Sin All: But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Pastor: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

Oh, Taste and See All (Sung): Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are they who take refuge in him. Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

Oh, Taste and See All: Your faithfulness continues forever. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are they who take refuge in him.
