Task 1.1: Organisation of STI Days 4 Activities and achievements of the STI Days workshops organised by various projects targeting ASEAN countries, focusing on three societal challenges of common interest to both regions - Health, Water Management, Food Security and Safety - but also including transversal topics like mobility, IPR and Innovation Dedicated sections allowed discussion on the implementation of a future Pilot Joint Call and a Joint Funding Scheme between Europe and South-East Asia Information and training sessions on funding and mobility opportunities; particular focus on National Contact Points training Brokerage events: a high number of participants took part in face to face meetings aiming at building new scientific networks and establishing cooperation Training session for NCPs

Task 1.1: Organisation of STI Days An exhibition “Showcase Innovation”:“Showcase Innovation” -booths were offered to 24 exhibitors from 12 EU and ASEAN countries (innovative companies, research and innovation funding agencies, universities, public sector actors etc.) -showcase the innovation potential of Southeast Asia to European actors, and bi-regional cooperation initiatives. 5 Other Activities included: NASATI booth A young scientist paper award Field visits at research facilities in and around Paris (between 20 and 60 participants to each visit): Field visits

SEA-EU-NET seeks support for the 2016 STI Days SEA-EU-NET II seeks recommendation for the implementation of the Joint Funding Scheme Key actors in both regions should continue to invest in improving framework conditions for innovation and cooperation in light of a stronger ASEAN Economic Community The ASEAN-EU dialogue meeting should discuss the operational possibilities for sustained operational cooperation after the termination of the SEA-EU-NET project. 7 Key messages Task 1.2: Input paper to the 2015 ASEAN-EU dialogue

Europe-SEA joint funding scheme: – Pilot joint call being implemented: 20 proposals received from 101 partners (55 European and 46 from SEA) – Further development of a joint funding scheme will be discussed among partners in Siem Reap 9th November Ongoing study by WP4 on ASEAN Economic Community and framework conditions for innovation, in particular IP. Mission for interviews and data collection last May, continued drafting this fall, to be completed by year end with publication early next year. Research and innovation policy consultation: Workshops conducted include biosecurity, water, health challenges and gaps in research, (one-health surveillance, One health and Eco-Health research, and One Health challenges around antimicrobial resistance) 8 Key elements Task 1.2: Input paper to the 2015 ASEAN-EU dialogue

Interviewing/ getting feedback to the pre- specified question from experts willing to participate Analysis of the feedback Identification of the most valuable feedbacks and inviting the experts with such responses to present and discuss the findings Preparing a draft report of the findings to be discussed during the workshop at STI Days Presentation by 3 experts (1 from each thematic areas of Food, Health and Water) followed by a panel discussion, alongside a Q & A session with the audience. 13 Workshop title : ASEAN-EU Research and Innovation Co-operation Policy Consultation Date: Thursday, 19 th March 2015, in accordance with ASEAN-EU STI Days Paris 2015, Objectives:  Present survey/interview key results and recommendations  Engage experts and a targeted audience in discussions on how to move forward towards a better/more efficient and productive cooperation in the three thematic areas  Facilitate an ASEAN-EU policy dialogue in the three thematic areas Target Audience:  EU and ASEAN researchers involved in bi-regional projects  Representatives of EU and ASEAN Member State innovation-related ministries and funding agencies  Other relevant stakeholders WP 1 - ASEAN-EU Science, Technology and Innovation Days and support to the political dialogue

14 Consultation aimed to understand the current status and the way forward in terms of ASEAN cooperation with the EU in the three thematic areas (health; food security and safety; water management). 16 Next Steps: To produce the ``EU and ASEAN: Food, Health and Water Practices`` report in a printable version for future dissemination and exploitation. To arrange a consultation workshop, “ASEAN-EU Research and Innovation Co-operation Policy Consultation Review” to be conducted at STI Days in 2016 in Hanoi, Vietnam as a second edition of the “ASEAN-EU Research and Innovation Co-operation Policy Consultation” organized at STI Days in 2015 in Paris. The session would aim at sharing the results/ findings of the consultation along with discussion on feedback from other sessions organised while disseminating the results of the consultation.
