Our Question and Hypothesis The question to be addressed was,”How does microgravity affect the growth of Artemia NYOS?” The hypothesis is that,”The sea monkeys will grow much larger, and faster in space.” http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Artemia_salina.jpg

Experiment Materials and Procedure -Volume 1 Seven cc (milliliters) of water and .5 grams of water purifier -Volume 2 0.3 grams of Sea Monkey Eggs -Volume 3 0.05 cc of Dehydrated Algae In our experiment we would have allowed Sea Monkeys to hatch, grow, and reproduce in space. Upon arrival we would have recorded the size and amount of sea monkeys in the tube and also taken note of any mutations present. The data then would be compared to the ones that were on earth.

Explanation and Reasoning The rationale behind the experiment is to observe growth, reproduction, and mutations among organisms in microgravity. Sea monkeys were chosen as the organism because of their minute size. The reduced pressure in space is the reason behind our hypothesis. We thought the Artemia NYOS would grow bigger and reproduce at a faster pace in microgravity.

Artemia Facts Sea monkeys are born with one eye but grow two more when they reach maturity. Sea monkeys live up to two years. Sea monkeys breath through their feet. Sea monkeys stomachs turn black when they’re full. Sea monkeys (the ones you buy) aren’t really monkeys, nor do they live in the sea. Sea monkeys change colors from white to deep red. Males enjoy fighting; females are docile. Sea monkeys prefer warm climates around 70 degrees fahrenheit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brine_shrimp
