Vocabulary Cell Nucleus Mitochondria Endoplasmic Reticulum Ribosomes Golgi bodies Chloroplasts Vacuoles Lysosomes Cell Membrane Cell Wall

Cell Organelles Organelles are tiny structures in a cell that help it complete its overall function. This is just like a town! We need everyone to do their job for the town to work well… As you go through the parts of a cell, you will create an analogy for each organelle compared to a part or person in a town!

Nucleus Found in both plant and animal cells Controls all activities for the cell Contains DNA

Mitochondria Found in both plant and animal cells Produces energy for the cell by breaking down sugar molecules

Endoplasmic Reticulum Found in both plant and animal cells Network of tubes that helps transport materials 2 Types: Rough ER Covered with ribosomes Smooth ER No ribosomes

Ribosomes Found in both plant and animal cells Can be attached to Endoplasmic Reticulum or free-floating Makes proteins

Golgi Bodies Found in both plant and animal cells Packages, labels, and ships proteins out of the cell

Chloroplasts Found in plant cells only Produce food for plant cells This is what makes plant cells green!

Vacuoles Found in both plant and animal cells MUCH larger in plant cells than animal Stores water, nutrients, and waste

Lysosomes Found in animal cells only Contain enzymes that break down materials in the cell

Cell Membrane Found in both plant and animal cells Regulates what enters and exits the cell

Cell Wall Found around plant cells only Very strong Provides support and protection for cell

I love creating interactive lessons that educators can use to inspire their students’ learning! I hope you found this lesson helpful in engaging all of your learners. Thank You! Abby
