POLITICAL UNREST AND CIVIL WARS:BECAUSE OF POLITICAL UNREST AND WAR IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES CHILDREN ARE STARVING BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO GO WITHOUT ANY FOOD FOR DAYS. DIVERSIFICATION OF FUNDS TO INCREASE MILITARY BUDGET: OF COURSE DURING WAR TIME MOST OF THE FUNDS GO TOWARD THE MILITARY BUDGET LEAVING MUCH LESS OR NONE TO GIVE TO THE AFRICAN CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES TO AID IN THEIR WELFARE WHICH MORE IMPORTANTLY LEAVES NO FOOD ON THE TABLE. ECONOMIC CONDITIONS: BECAUSE THE ECONOMIC CONDITIONS ARE VERY POOR IN AFRICA, THE PEOPLE HAVE TO SUFFER AND WILL HAVE TO LIVE WELL BELOW THE POVERTY LINE, WHICH DEFINITELY AFFECTS THE CHILDREN AND LEADS TO THEM STARVING. DROUGHT: AFRICAN FAMILIES DEPEND ON FARMING AS ONE OF THEIR SOURCES OF OBTAINING FOOD. HOWEVER, DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING, DROUGHTS ARE PREVALENT CAUSING FAMILIES TO STRUGGLE AND UNABLE TO GROW THE FOOD NEEDED TO SURVIVE. HIV/AIDS: THIS, ALONG WITH OTHER DEVASTATING INFECTIOUS DISEASES, THAT TAKES THE LIFE OF THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY OR PROVIDER OR THEY BECOME TOO SICK AND UNABLE TO WORK TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR FAMILY. WHY THERE ARE SO MANY STARVING CHILDREN IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES?

WHERE THE MOST CHILD HUNGER OCCURS According to the 2008 Global Hunger Index, which is a bit outdated but probably still correct, India currently ranks 66 out of 88 nations (developing countries and countries in transition).

THE FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

FAO'S ACTIVITIES Putting information within reach. Sharing policy expertise. Providing a meeting place for nations Bringing knowledge to the field.
