Electron Configurations and Periodic Trends

Background Organizing and identifying trends is an essential skill in chemistry. Without out these skills, the periodic table would be nothing but jumbled up elements listed in no specific order. Today you will be organizing electron configurations using your own methods of organization.

Procedure 1) Break into small groups 2) At each lab station there are several sheets of paper that have electron configurations on them, you will be organizing these. 3) Organize the electron configurations three different ways, write an explanation as to why you organized the electron configurations the way you did. 4) Pick an organization method that you think the periodic table follows and write a brief summary about the similarities of your method and the periodic table’s method.
