Activity #6: Identifying Liquids

Read A-21 A-25

Challenge: What are the liquids in the mixture?

Procedure: 1.Review table 1 (pg. A-23) 2.Create a table in science notebook to record data (Properties of Separated Liquids) 3.Work with group to test the liquids & record the results 4.Follow teacher instructions for clean up

Safety Notes: Can cause skin irritation—rinse hands Wear goggles Keep ETOH capped

Data Table: Properties of Separated Liquids Follow the format on pg. A-24

Analysis Questions: 1-3 Conclusion: Here is where you would explain what you did, what you discovered, and what your results mean. Always use evidence from your activity to support your conclusion.

Activity #7: Identifying Solids

Read A-26 A-31

Challenge: What are the solids in the mixture? Procedure: 1.Review table 1 (pg. A-29) 2.Create a table to record “Properties of Separated Solids” (pg. A-28) 3.Prepare solids by removing any coating w/ steel wool, rinse, and dry well 4.Work w/ group to conduct each test on each solid 5.Rinse and dry after each test if necessary 6.Follow teacher’s directions for cleanup

Safety Notes: May cause skin irritation, rinse hands Wear goggles Use ethanol in a well-ventilated area, keep vials capped Data Table: Properties of Separated Solids Follow format on A-28

Analysis: (1-4) Conclusion: Here is where you would explain what you did, what you discovered, and what your results mean. Always use evidence from your activity to support your conclusion.
