T he Monarch Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state, but she has no real power. She acts on the advice of ministers.

The Government The Government is the executive branch of power. It includes the Cabinet and Non-Cabinet Ministers. The Prime Minister is the head of the government.

Parliament Parliament is the legislative branch of power. It consists of two houses: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Besides there is the Official Opposition in Parliament.

Great Britain is a very interesting country. Queen Elizabeth II is not only the head of Great Britain, but also the head of the Commonwealth, with the population of 1,5 billion. In fact, she is the head of more than one quarter of the earth’s inhabitants.
