SOLAR POWER

Advantages of Solar Power Solar energy is free! It does not cause pollution – it is a clean form of energy. It can be used in remote areas. Solar energy is infinite (forever), whereas the world’s oil reserves may only last for years.

Disadvantages of Solar Power There is a cost to set up the equipment (panels, batteries). It is an unreliable form of energy. It can only be harnessed when it is daytime and sunny. The equipment is very expensive to purchase.

WIND ENERGY

Wind Energy Facts: Wind power is currently the fastest growing source of energy production in the world. A single wind turbine can power approximately 500 homes. In Denmark and Portugal, wind power makes up 20% of total energy production. Wind turbine blades can reach speed of over 300 kmh. Large groups of wind turbines are called wind farms.

Advantages of Wind Turbines They are a renewable AND clean form of energy production. Wind is free! Although the turbines are very tall, they do not take up a lot of land. They can be used in remote (far away) places. Some people think wind turbines are an interesting feature in the landscape.

Disadvantages of Wind Turbines They do not produce the same amount of energy all of the time. They are unreliable. Wind turbines generate noise. There are some connections to health problems. There is a risk for accidents to occur (e.g. fires, blades).
