What is a plant? Multicellular Eukaryotic cell
Meiosis is a special form of cell division.

Alternation of Generations Plant life cycles have two alternating generations: a diploid phase (2N) and a haploid phase (N) During alternation of generations,
Sexual reproduction requires a cycle that alternates between haploid (n) and diploid (2n) cells. Meiosis is required for sexual reproduction. The offspring.

Plant Reproduction By Diana L. Duckworth Rustburg High School Campbell County

Key terms Haploid (1N or N) –one copy of each chromosome –gametophytes are haploid –Formed by meiosis (reduction cell division); pairs of chromosomes are divided into different cells –Each daughter cell gets one of each chromosome Diploid (2N) –two copies of each chromosome –Formed by union of sperm & egg (forms a zygote) –Sporophytes are diploid Mitosis – cell division in which all chromosomes are copied; produces two cells with identical genetic material Annual – one year life cycle; Biennial – 2 growing seasons; Perennial – lives for several years, reproduces every year
