ARTSYS Tutorial Welcome! If you are a first-time user, we strongly recommend that you go through the entire tutorial. Just single click or press the page down (PgDn) button on your keyboard. If you are trying to determine if a course is transferable to the four- year institution, click on the Course Equivalencies link in the left hand box. COURSE EQUIVALENCIES/LOOK-UP

You’re probably wondering why you see this screen, when what you really wanted was to see if a particular course would transfer. You will be able to do so after you’ve selected a Sending Institution and Receiving Institution(s). a. Select Sending/Receiving Institution

Now that you’ve selected the sending and receiving institution, you can enter the course prefix and number and click on the “Go” button. NOTE: If you would like to see how the course will transfer to all institutions, click on the “Change Institutions” button and select “All Receiving Institutions” to get a comprehensive list. b. Step 2

View Syllabus View Syllabus Community college course detail is provided in this box. If you see “View Syllabus” next to the course prefix and number, this means that the course syllabus is available for view. Simply click on the words “View Syllabus” and a pop- up will appear with the syllabus information. Note: not all courses have this information available for view. c. View Syllabus

This box contains all the information about how or if the course will transfer to the four-year institution. There are several ways a course may transfer: 1) a direct equivalent at the four-year institution, 2) applicable towards general education, 3) linked to another course or courses for equivalency, or 4) transfers a a lower level elective. There will be times when you see an additional line of information about the course transfer. This might take the form of a footnote, course note, or required linkages to other courses for equivalency. If the course is applicable towards general education requirements, you will see an “AREA” listed. If you would like to see what other courses at your community college transfer as general education in this area, simply click on the link to view the list. d. How Courses Transfer

On occasion, you will encounter courses that will have more than one evaluation associated with it. The pull-down menu feature allows for the user to see the different evaluations, according to the first year for which the evaluation is effective. Use your mouse to access the pull down menu to select a date. e. Multiple Evaluations

Notice that the evaluation for the course has changed. With the “Spring 1997” – option, the course has the equivalency of a Lower Level Elective, while the “Fall 1961 – Spring 1997” option, the course had no equivalency. f. Revised Course Evaluations

If you selected “All Receiving Institutions” you will see the results for all participating four-year institutions. Just scroll down the page to see all the results. If the course applies to general education, you will see a link to the area category. Click on the link to view a list of other courses that satisfy this general education area. e. Multiple Receiving Institution

Click on the “Recommended Transfer Programs” (RTP) link to find out what courses should be completed at your community college that parallel what students enroll in during the first two years of a major at the four-year institution. RECOMMENDED TRANSFER PROGRAMS

If you know you would like to major in a particular program, e.g., Engineering, but aren’t sure which four-year institution has the right program for you, click on the “Change Institutions” button and select “All Receiving Institutions” and then type in the name or part of the name of the program in the “Major Keyword” box. For example, type in “Engineer” and click on the “Next >” button. a. Finding an Institution that offers your Major

Now simply click on the link for the program that best fits your interest and needs. b. Step 2

If you know which four-year institution you’d like to attend, click on the “Change Institutions” button and select the appropriate institution. If you know what you want to major in, simply type the name or part of the name of the program in the “Major Keyword” box. If you’re not sure about your major, simply leave the box blank and click the “Next >” button. You can choose to display the recommended programs in community college courses or four-year institution courses, then click on the “Next >” button. c. I know my major and the institution to which I wish to transfer…

If you typed in your intended major, you will see an abbreviated list of recommended transfer programs. If you left the “Major Keyword” blank, you will see the entire list of programs available for display. Click on the link for the program in which you are interested. d. Step 2

There may be several course options available at the community college that will apply towards a requirement. Some may be (Inactive) courses but are listed in case you completed it when it was still offered under that course prefix and number. Other information included: minimum grade required to apply towards the major, general education AREA requirements, Contact information, etc. e. Interpreting the Information

There are five separate functions under Keyword Search: 1.List all community college courses that satisfy general education at the community college. 2.List all community college courses that satisfy general education at the four-year institution. 3.Search for a community college course by title (Keyword Search) instead of course prefix and number. 4.Search for community college courses by department. 5.Search for four-year institution courses by department. Let’s take a look at each of these functions individually. KEYWORD SEARCH

General Education Search: Click on the general education area for which you are searching and then click “Go.” This will provide you with a full listing of the community college general education courses for that area. The possibilities don’t end here. a. Search by General Education Area

Sometimes you can’t remember or don’t know the exact course prefix and number of a course. You can use the “Keyword” function to find likely matches. b. Keyword Function

There may be times when you want to see a list of all the courses offered at your community college in a particular department and how they transfer. To do this, type in the course prefix in the Community College box, and click the “Go” button. c. Community College Courses by Department

If you would like to determine what courses at your community college are equivalent to a particular course at the four-year institution, type in the course prefix in the University Course box and click on the “Go” button. If you would like to see all of a department’s courses at the four- year institution, you can type in just the course prefix in the University Course box and click on the “Go” button. d. Course Equivalents by Department

e. Building a “Transcript” You may have noticed that when you viewed the list for a general education search, keyword search, or courses by department, a check box was next to each of the courses in the list. You can click on the box next to the course(s), enter the grade you received (or anticipate receiving), click on the “Process Selections” button, then click on the “Evaluate Transcript” button. This will “send” the course or courses to the transcript evaluation page.

TRANSCRIPT EVALUATIONS Click on the “Transcript Evaluations” link when you want to learn how what you’ve taken or plan to take will transfer. You have the option of evaluating on a course-by- course basis, or based on a Recommended Transfer Program. Let’s get started.

You can select the method for entering courses. If you have a previously “stored” transcript, click on the “Request Transcript” button. Otherwise, click the “Enter Courses” button. a. Select Method for Entering Courses

You can either type in courses, or if you’ve used the options in the “Keyword Search” function to select courses for evaluation, you can now enter additional courses on this screen. If you’ve attended more than one community college, you can change the institution code and type in the courses for that institution. With the third column, you can designate when the course was taken in order for the course to have the proper evaluation. You also have an area where you can enter the credit amount. b. Course Entry Screen

After course information has been entered, you can save, erase, or you can evaluate your “transcript” on a course or program basis. If you just want to see how each course would transfer, click on the “Course Evaluation” button. If you have an intended major in mind, select “RTP Evaluation.” A screen will appear listing all the Recommended Transfer Programs at the four-year institution. c. Save, Erase, or Evaluate

Click on the program in which you are interested. For example, Economics. Your “transcript” has now been evaluated for the Economics major. As you scroll down the page, you will see a detailed description of how your courses were applied to the program and/or general education requirements. You have the opportunity to save a summary of the evaluation. c. Evaluation by Major

You may now compare your “transcript” to another recommended program. First, click on the “Save Summaries” button, and enter an ID in the pop up. Second, click on the “More Evaluations” button and select the next Recommended Transfer Program. d. Evaluation Comparisons

A screen will appear with a summary of your evaluation(s). e. Evaluation Summaries

In addition to comparing your transcript to another recommended program, you can also see courses available to meet the remaining requirements by clicking on this link. f. Remaining Requirements

With this screen, you can examine a list of courses that will fulfill each requirement that was not completed. If you click on a blue link, it will take you to the “course-to- course” equivalency screen, which will display more information about the chosen course g. More Information

Click on the “Search for Majors” link when you wish to get a list of institutions in Maryland that offer the major in which you’re interested. SEARCH FOR MAJORS

a. Step 1 First, type in the name of the major in which you are interested. If the name is more than one word, for example computer science, type in “computer+science.” The plus(+) sign will refine your search. Next, you may either search “All Institutions” or “All Receiving Institutions” (four-year) or “All Sending Institutions” (two-year) or a specific institution.
