150 years ago, a battle in northern Italy sparked an idea that has since changed the world. On , Henry Dunant, a young Geneva businessman, witnessed horrifying suffering & agony following the battle of Solferino. He mobilized the civilian population, mainly women & girls, to care for the wounded irrespective of their role in the conflict. He secured them with the necessary materials, supplies & helped in the establishment of temporary hospitals. His book “A memory of Solferino” inspired the establishment of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1863.

What to Do??? Perform Heimlich Maneuver if you are properly trained Conscious Victim: Approach from behind and wrap arms around the victim’s waist. Place one fist just above the victim’s navel with the thumb side against the abdomen.Second hand over the fist. Press into the victim’s abdomen with one upward thrust Repeat thrust if necessary. Try to pop the obstruction out with swift thrusts in and up. Continue until the obstruction is relieved or victim collapses.
