Alliances: agreement, support or friendship between two or more countries or parties European powers formed rival alliances to protect themselves – Germany organized the Triple Alliance with Austria Hungary & Italy – France responded by linking itself to Russia & Britain: Triple Entente Germany Austria- Hungary Italy France Russia Britain

Imperialism -Britain, France, Russia, Germany & Italy scrambled for colonies in Africa, Asia & the Pacific -SPAM taught us that the U.S. was now a new Imperial force to be reckoned with!
