Afghanistan 9/11/2001 – US attacked by terrorist group Al Qaeda 9/20/2001 – President Bush declares war on terror –Request Afghanistan turn over Bin Laden, or else 10/7/2001 – Operation Enduring Freedom – US and Allies bomb Afghanistan –Taliban refuses to give up Bin Laden –US invades Afghanistan 11/13/2001 – Northern Alliance (US backed Afghan Group) captures Kabul 12/2001 – New government setup for Afghanistan –Osama Bin Laden on the Run

Bush Doctrine Containment and Deterrence = Traditional Foreign Policy –Cold War Policy –Nations were enemies Bush Doctrine –New Doctrine of preemptive strike –Terrorism new type of war –Need new tactics –Ideas are enemies –Target = Terrorist and Weapons of Mass Destruction
