 “Innovative metallic materials” in the region of Duisburg  Project goals:  Strengthening the regional competitiveness  Support efficient networking  Methodology to utilize existing innovation forces and innovation potentials  Transfer of methodology to local actors  Target group:  Managing personnel of clusters  SME  Economic promotion agency with man power to continue network after foresight process Example: Technology Foresight

 Methodology:  First workshop: moderated session with key actors, in order to work out the most important (technological) trends  Second workshop: moderated session with key actors, in order to work out existing strength and weaknesses of the location in relation to relevant future technological trends in the competence field  Participants:  local representatives, two or three SMEs, one representative of a multinational company and one representative of the science sector  Duty of working groups: work out practical and concrete measures, to prepare the region on the identified future trends Workshop based technology foresight process

 Results:  Identification and description of key competencies and deficits  Identification of major trends  Formulation of concrete measures  Network recommendations:  Successful implementation of identified measures  Working a common vision (motivation of actors)  …  Policy implications:  Successful FS needs professional preparation:  A critical level of networking should be already there  Moderator  Critical mass of participants Workshop based technology foresight process
