VC Infrastructure Upgrade Major Drivers for Upgrade: ●To Increase Capacity. ●To Enable Easier Multi-Platform Conferencing Over: ●Built for Purpose Rooms ●Cisco Video Phones ●Cisco Jabber Mobile ●Cisco Jabber Desktop ●WebEx (Eventually) ●To Create a Uniform User Experience. Achieved By: ●Upgrading all VC Touchpanel Controls to Same (latest) Software Version, ●Upgrading of all VC Rooms with Handheld Remote Controls to Touchpanel Operation. ●Reprogramming of AMX Controlled Rooms to Imitate Cisco GUI style.

VC Infrastructure Upgrade The Upgrade Consisted of a Hybrid Solution of Both Physical and Virtual Machines: ●Physical machines o At Nathan Campus. oA Known Technology. oA “Safety Net” - Untried Virtual Devices. oExisting Hardware Upgraded for Some Cost Savings. ●Virtual machines oAt Gold Coast Campus. oVirtualisation is the Way of the Future. oProvide Valuable Experience. oMore Easily Upgraded in the Future. ●The Devices at Nathan Could be Virtualised at a Later Date.

VC Infrastructure Upgrade

Basic VC Room

Advanced VC Room

Teaching Spaces ●All of Griffith’s VC Equipped Teaching Spaces are Currently Undergoing an Upgrade. ●Two basic types: ○Lecture Theatre. ○Seminar Room. ●Design Challenges ○Technical Simplicity - Reliability ○Simplicity of Operation - Assists Self Service, Reduces Support. ○Automated. ○Adapting Technology to Teaching Methods, Rather Than Adapting Teaching Methods to the Technology. ○Ability to Support Different Teaching Methods Other Than “Stand and Deliver”. ○Minimise the “Presence” of the Technology. ○Technology for Student Collaboration. ○Reliable. ○Cost Effective.

The Future ●What Works Well ○Call Across Different Platforms. ○Multi Party Conference Calls. ○Ease of Use. ●What Does Not Work Well ○Unexpected Bugs in New Infrastructure Currently Being Rectified. ●Griffith’s Policy is to Continue and Increase the Use of Videoconferencing Into the Future. ●Upcoming Upgrades to Teaching Spaces. Input and Advice is Always Welcome! ●Undergoing a Standardisation Process Highlighted by the infrastructure Upgrade. ●Continuation of The “Self Serve” Policy. ●The “Online University”.
