Major Characters  Amos: A kind man captured and sold as a slave and freed himself and freed others to die hopefully  Violet: A nice woman with her daughter Celyndia and was freed and married by Amos to live a free happy life

Minor Characters  Celyndia: Violet and Amos’s daughter who was freed as well as her mom to live a happy life with her new dad Amos Fortune  Lily: A woman freed and married by Amos and married but sadly lived a short life and died of illness  Lydia: Another woman freed and married by Amos Fortune who had broken her legs but Amos still believed she was a good woman to marry and she died a year later happy as can be  Caleb Copeland: The first bidder to bid on Amos Fortune and took him in and his daughter taught Amos Christianity and told him about God and angels  Lois Burdoo: The mom of Polly Burdoo worked hard to keep poor and free kids shelter so they don’t have to starve and suffer  Polly Burdoo: Lois Burdoo daughter was a very nice little girl who died within a year she was brought to freedom by Amos Fortune and couldn’t stand up or sit up and died happy and free
