Willow’s Boat Ride By Joanie Niffenegger

This is a story about Willow Four year old Willow, her mommy and Eric, her mommy’s boyfriend drove from Chicago, Illinois to Murray, Kentucky for a summer vacation.

After a very long ride in the car and a good night’s sleep, Willow was ready to enjoy her first day on Kentucky Lake. She had a brand new life jacket just right for her, a yellow straw hat to protect her from the sun’s rays, and was wearing her underwear. Her mommy rubbed lotion all over her and lowered her into the lake, in the arms of a grown-up.

There she splashed and paddled. Swimming with the fishes! Oh what fun!

On the second day of Willow’s visit to Kentucky Lake, Willow put on a new bathing suit, her lifejacket and her sunscreen. She was again lowered into the lake and into the arms of the grown-ups who love her. She splashed and paddled with the fishes! Oh what fun!

Suddenly a boat pulled up to the dock. It was Tom. He came to take Willow, her mommy, and Eric for a boat ride to see the eagles and their nests on the other side of the lake.

And off they went. The boat roared through the lake leaving a trail of white foam behind it.

Then it was time to leave Murray, Kentucky and drive back to Chicago, Ilinois. Everyone had a good time splashing and paddling in Kentucky Lake, especially Willow The End
