Questions Please ask any questions you have. If you would like to inquire about grades I will be able to do a private chat (PM) towards the end of seminar.

Goal Setting It’s important to set goals at a level that is appropriate to the individual’s situation. Mindtools.com notably mentions that setting goals helps build self- confidence. Questions to ask: What skills and what knowledge are required? What resources are needed? How can I get them? How can I break up each large goal into smaller accomplishments? Is this the best path to complete the goal? Do any of my goals conflict with each other? Are some components the same? Is there any assistance I will need along the way? Who is my support system? What things might get in my way and, anticipating them, how will I deal with them? How will I remind myself of this goal so it doesn’t get forgotten? What will be the reward?

Kinds of Goals Creating a popular new game Learning techniques and the process to get there, finding resources, learning about marketing Winning a race Building stamina and muscle strength, participating in the event, making it to the finish line Getting a new job Practice with interviewing, creation of a resume and/or portfolio, experience that can be used for future interviews

Fallacies Although this unit focuses on career goals, there are other kinds, including but not limited to: Artistic Attitude (Behavior) Education Family Financial Health Hobby Home Improvement Personal Goals Physical Public Service Recreation Relationship Religious Social

Examples More about S.M.A.R.T. Goals Specific = the who, what, when, where, why, and how also Significant, Substantial Measurable = so you can see change as it happens also Meaningful, Motivational Action-Oriented = stretch a little for opportunities in your reach also Attainable, Achievable, Agreed Upon (if a group or family goal), Aggressive Realistic = being both willing and able, and within resources available also Relevant, Reasonable, Results-Oriented, Reachable Timed (Timely) = a clear, specific target, well-planned also Trackable, Truthful, Tangible

Other things to consider Break goals into steps, which builds confidence as increments are completed Ask your family and friends to support you in working towards your goals Ask for help when you need it List the benefits to attaining your goal (motivation) Adjust your plan when it is S.M.A.R.T. to do so (be flexible) Set priorities Keep a positive attitude Stay focused Have courage and be persistent

Questions ???

Interview Reasons to do the interview (other than it is a part of the Final Project): You will learn more about what that person does in his/her job, helping you to understand a little more about that particular career. It is a networking experience, out of which professional connections may arise. It’s good practice with professional communication skills. It’s good practice with time management skills. It’s good practice for note-taking. The assessment of the interview written for the Final Project will also take critical thinking skills.

The event….the actual event l How and how and when…..

To Do Seminar DONE Reading Unit Assignment for Unit 7 is NOT due until Unit 9 3 posts on 3 different days---1 response to main prompt with at least 150 words—first post no LATER than Saturday

Well Done Questions? Thanks for a wonderful Seminar – have a fantastic week. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me via Kaplan or AIM.
