The Importance of Program Monitoring 1.Goals 2.Budget 3.Performance 4.Efficiency 5.Effectiveness 6.Stewardship

1. Goals Derived from mission statement Operationalized through objectives Monitoring involves looking back at stated (written) goals and objectives to make sure they are being met

2. Budget Tracking expenses Cost analysis Monitoring allows adjustments to be made; services may be expanded or reduced

3. Performance Participant performance standards are set when objectives for each program are written Staff standards are set with job description and evaluation Monitoring helps track performance in these areas: program delivery participation, return rateemployee retention, maintenance timesick days accident ratesmarketing program

3. Efficiency Track the ways resources are used Compare ways to use resources (time, facility, travel) Monitoring ---Changes/adjustments may be made to improve efficiency

5. Effectiveness Does efficiency = effectiveness? Proposed changes take into account effect on – Customer satisfaction – Staff programming ease – Safety – Skill acquisition Monitoring provides balance of efficiency and effectiveness

6. Stewardship Protect resources, both human and natural Spend funds wisely Provide for community health and well-being Monitoring may be done through environmental impact statement, fiscal reporting, etc.

Registration and Reservations Registration--- signing up participants Reservation system--- prioritizing recreation space R & R systems track participant information RecWare and RecTrac are examples of computer programs used for tracking participants, reservations, maintenance, schedules, budgets, etc.
