North Carolina A&T State University Tuition Discussion
Campus Initiated Tuition Proposal NCA&T proposes to strategically increase campus based tuition for the next five years. Additional resources are necessary to continue to promote academic excellence, and recruit and retain quality faculty and researchers. In our Carnegie classification of Research –High Activity, our peer institutions within the UNC system (ECU, UNC-C & UNC- G) have advanced aggressive strategies for revenue enhancement through tuition increases and have used the funding to implement strategic initiatives within the last four years. NCA&T must embrace this same aggressive strategy in order to remain competitive.
Campus Initiated Tuition Proposal (cont.) NCA&T has not implemented a campus initiated tuition increase for undergraduates since While we have tried to remain a low cost option for our students, we find ourselves unable to successfully compete with our peer group with the necessary financial resources that campus tuition can provide. The following slides illustrate our rankings within the UNC system for tuition and fee costs.
Impact of Years with No Tuition Increase
Undergrad Tuition and Fees In-State
Undergrad Tuition and Fees Out-Of-State
Graduate Tuition and Fees In-State
Graduate Tuition and Fees Out-Of-State
Legislative Tuition Increase FY The General Assembly has approved a tuition increase for all UNC institutions of 8% or $200.00, whichever is less. For NCA&T this equates to:
Legislative Tuition Increase (cont.) The UNC System and NCA&T would like to present an alternative to the currently approved legislative increase for FY The alternative CITI would be less than the legislative increase and allow the revenue generated to be used by the campus to advance university priorities. In order for the CITI recommendation to move forward, the legislative increase would have to be rescinded. Without the rescission or a change to the current legislation, a CITI would not be implemented.
Campus Based Tuition Increase FY Campus based tuition will be increased for both undergraduate and graduate students. UndergraduateGraduate Resident$110.00$ Non-Resident$110.00$ This equates to an increase of 5.50% for resident students. 50% of the revenue generated will be used for need based financial aid. The additional 50% will be used for academic and student support as well as faculty competitiveness.
Campus Based Tuition Increase (cont.) FY Even with the strategy of modest tuition increases over the next five years, NCA&T will still remain behind our peers and NCCU based on their current rates.
