Hrs mentoring

Mentoring is thought to be important to the professional development of students and young investigators. There is some indication from the literature that mentoring can actually be counterproductive in the sense that trainees learn short cuts and questionable practices from advisors and mentors. What do you think? Strongly disagree Strongly agree

Having completed the CITI Course in the Responsible Conduct of Research and gained a better understanding of how damaging research misconduct can be to students, to the institutions and to other investigators, I am now more likely to report a clear act of Misconduct to the appropriate person. Strongly disagree Strongly agree

Does your institution or organization have an official program specifically designed to match students and new faculty with more senior level faculty interested in mentoring?

If you are mentoring students and post docs in research ethics or the responsible conduct of research, what background do you have to teach these topics to students? I have attended conferences on how to teach research ethics and the RCR to student and fellows.3% I have attended seminars or conferences on research ethics.13% I am now passing along to my students the wisdom I gained from my mentor.17% I have taken other courses in research ethics, and/or read about mentoring.18% Many years of experience teaching and advising students.18% This CITI course32% I have never been a mentor.59%

The modules on Research Misconduct, Responsible Publication Practices and Conflicts of Interest present a short video case study as an introduction to the module. Please provide us with some feedback regarding these "Introduction" videos. Choose as many as is appropriate to convey your opinions. The 3 minute video case studies were not long enough to introduce the topic thoroughly.1% The Introductory video case studies were not well done.2% The Introductory video case studies were not helpful in providing context for the module.3% The 3 minute video case studies were too long.4% I didn't view any of the Introductory video case studies.17% CITI Should make Introductory videos for the other RCR topics.7% It's all about economy of time. I prefer text, because I can read faster than I can listen.8% The Introductory video case studies were well done.19% The length of the 3 minute video case studies was about right.19% The Introductory video case studies were helpful to frame the content before I started reading..20% 73% 27%
