Rhode Island was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams. Rhode Island was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams.

Rhode Island was part of the New England Colonies. The climate in the winter is long and cold.

Important Historical Information Williams, the founder, was a peace keeper and respected the Native Americans. He actually bought land from them instead of taking it like the King of England did. First town in the Colony of Rhode Island was called Providence. Ann Hutchinson did not agree with the Puritans and Governor Winthrop kicked her out so she started her own town called, Portsmouth in Rhode Island. Roger Williams eventually became the president of Rhode Island.
