A professional technologist (tk-nl-jst) is… …is not labour only e.g. as a professional involved in the design and/or development of technological outcomes engages in a specified occupation or activity requiring special skill or training for money or as a means of earning a living, rather than as a pastime. …establish the carpenter’s involvement with design or development and then he is a professional technologist

Further clarification of a If the technologists responsibilities clearly had an impact on their practice in the development of the outcome then it would be difficult to understand how the person could not be involved in design or development. The reverse is also true. So if the carpenters and hairdressers (who are being put forward by candidates) are involved in the design or development of an outcome, they should have clearly defined responsibilities, than these responsibilities should impact upon their practice in the design and development of the outcome If on the other hand the student considers the role without sufficient consideration of outcomes which required responsible practice to design or develop it would be difficult to maintain that they were considering a technologist.
