Syllabus

 Study the content, principles and methods of chemistry.  Improve critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.  Strengthen written and oral communication skills.  Recognize and understand the role of chemistry in our daily lives.

 The lecture material will focus on a variety of questions about things that happen in our daily lives; questions about medicine and medical treatments, food and drink, energy and fuels, household materials and the environment.  The answers will be based on chemical principles and concepts.

 Attend class and contribute to discussion.  Give a 15 minute oral presentation on a chemistry-based topic.  Take exams.

 Read the text and other assigned materials.  Participate in course-related field trip(s).  Find, analyze and record three chemistry- based current issues and prepare a one-page written report.  Research and present a 15-minute oral presentation on one of the questions (not covered in class) in Chapter13 or 14. Prepare a Powerpoint file for your talk.
