A CTIVE AND S TATE V ERBS - - believe remember understand hear know (dis)agree (dis)like need want own loveforget hate fall ache grow have arrive melt ask read change throw cook dance watch eat travel hit knock Active verbs State verbs describe actions -you can use them with continuous forms to talk about activities in progress verbs connected with knowledge, emotion or possession describe states -nothing happens - you cannot use them with continuous forms

Here are some a few verbs that can be both state and action verbs depending on their meaning. I think you made a mistake. think = believe I am thinking about my mum now. think = mental process I have two cars. have = possess, own I am having my lunch now. have = eat I am seeing my friend tomorrow evening. see = meeting with I see what you mean. See = understand
