Presentation transcript:

Entry Task: Get your basin. Observe your limestone. Carefully add one drop of acid while wearing goggles. Record your observations. Add to the scientific diagram you started on Tuesday. Label the type of rock in each layer. 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38 Today’s Plan:Reminder: -For test retakes, turn corrections into me -The Limestone Connectioncorrections due Nov 6th -Trimester project question, presentation method due Tues Nov 4th

Limestone Formation Limestone is created in two ways –Physical process –Biological process 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38

Physical Process –A precipitate forms when carbon dioxide is exhaled by marine organisms into water containing calcium. 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38

Biological Process Remains of marine animals. Their shells and skeletons are deposited on the bottom of the ocean The calcite and other minerals may harden into limestone. Remains of animals may also be buried in the carbonate muds and eventually turn into fossils. 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38

The Limestone Connection Your group will make a poster titled THE LIMESTONE CONNECTION to present and teach us about Limestone. Keep it neat, colorful, and well written with proper grammar! Divide the task so each person has their own part. Your poster must include the following: –Explain what is Limestone? (paragraph 1, pg 68) CLOSE YOUR BOOK, WRITE WHAT YOU LEARNED, OPEN THE BOOK AND CHECK –Describe 4 limestone types (pg 70-71). Each description should include: What it is composed of Where it is found How it was deposited A picture of each limestone. Print a picture from the internet or create a detailed scientific drawing. Add color when appropriate. (Each table can print one page, so plan together.) 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38

Geological Principles Layers of sediments are generally deposited in a horizontal or nearly horizontal position. Each new layer forms a new horizontal layer on top of the layers below. The Principle Of Original Horizontality 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38

Homework: ~Finish your part of the Limestone Connection ~Think about project ideas ~Study and make test corrections if you want a retake 10/30 Limestone Connection Lesson #38
