Five Ohio Teams!

Problems? There’s no problems! Reports of suicide, inadequate medical care, sexual abuse of minor (Artesia) Suicide attempt (week before first Ohio Dilley team arrived) Alleged sexual abuse at Karnes by GEO guard (in laundry room) Consistent reports of poor/inadequate mental and physical health treatment at all facilities

Still no problems here! Hunger strikes (Karnes TX March 2015) Continued changing of rules for volunteers (dress code issue) Crayons as contraband Continued Access to Counsel issues Kim Hunter and Andrew Free banned from Dilley

Not done yet! Over July 4 weekend, refugee children injected with adult doses of vaccine (Hepatitis A) over mothers’ objections Continued lack of accommodations for indigenous languages (those “weird languages”) ICE coercing refugee clients to choose GPS shackle over bond (even clients with G28s on file)

July 30, 2015 to present Four partners in CARA Project (AIC, AILA, RAICES, Clinic) filed multiple formal complaints with DHS’ Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) and the Office of Inspector General (OIG) regarding ongoing inadequate medical care
