When you do something the same way every time it is called a habit HABITS When you do something the same way every time it is called a habit

Your daily life includes many habits Habits can be good or bad. Biting your nails, sucking your thumbs, smoking, cursing, punctuality, good manners, eating too much The way you walk, talk, sit, stand, use gestures with your hands

Depending on what they are . . . Our habits can make us or break us. We become what we repeatedly do. Can we change our habits?

The 7 Habits of highly effective teens The habits discussed in the book build upon one another Page 6 Habits 1,2,3 – Self Mastery Habits 4,5,6 – Relationships and Teamwork Habit 7 – Renewal Refer to page 5 – Habits 1 -7 are listed and a brief explanation is given. Take out a sheet of paper and number it 1 -7. Now, list opposite an opposite statement for that habit.

Purpose of the 7 habits Get control of your life Improve relationships Make smarter decisions Get along with your parents Define your values and what matters mos Get more done in less time Increase self confidence Be happy Find balance between school, work and friends

Study habits When and where do you study best? Do you prefer silence or background noise? How can you avoid distractions that interfere with studying? Keep a separate notebook for each class Make sure you clearly understand the assignment Complete your class assignments every day Set aside a place and time to study When it is time to study, begin immediately Study in small segments of time. Do the more difficult assignments first Use your computer

Organize your schedule What important tasks must be done tomorrow? Which should be done first? Next? By listing things ahead of time, are we more likely to do them well and on time?

Improve your reading skill Skill that is basic to all studying and schoolwork. The better your read, the more effective studying will be. Observe chapter titles, subheads, photos and charts. Read sentences and paragraphs to understand the details of the idea.
