Presentation transcript:

 It is a traditional Mexican holiday.  Other Latin American countries also celebrate it.  This holiday is not a sad time!  It’s a time to honor & remember our love ones who are no longer with us.

 This holiday is a three day holiday celebrated every year:  October 31 st  November 1 st & 2 nd  It’s celebrated during Halloween. Many people think that these two holidays are the same, but they’re NOT!

 On the evening of October 31 st, people set up altars in their home.  Altars are usually set up before people go to the cemeteries to decorate the graveyard(s) of their love ones.  In an altar, you will find all the things the person used to like when he/she were alive.

 November 1 st is the day people honor the children and infants.  November 2 nd is the day people honor the rest of their love ones. (Adults)  On these two days, graveyards are usually decorated.  People decorate them to invite their deceased love ones back home.

 Parts of Central and South America.  Also parts of the U.S., like California, New Mexico, and Arizona.  In México, Guerrero & Oaxaca are the two states with the biggest community-wide celebrations.

 Fire  Water  Wind  Earth

 Fire is represented with wax candles.  The candles provide light to guide the souls back home.  A soul cannot travel back home in the dark.

 Earth is represented with anything that grows from the ground.  The flower use during this time is the Marigold.  People use this flower to decorate altars and graveyards.
