The State of Medicine Today

The Physicians Foundation 2014 Biennial Physician Survey found: – A majority of physicians (56%) describe their feelings as somewhat or very negative relative to the current state of the medical profession – More than two-thirds (69%) of all physicians expressed concerns about clinical autonomy and ability to make best decisions for patients – Twenty two percent of a physician’s time is spent on non- clinical paper work 8

Factors Impacting Physician Morale High levels of government mandates / regulations Malpractice liability pressures Declining reimbursement Sense of powerlessness to influence change Uncertainty caused by health reform Diminishing time spent with patients Erosion of clinical autonomy Lack of personal time due to ever present practice demands 9

Managing Transition to ICD-10 October 1, 2015 marked the transition to ICD-10 The Foundation’s Biennial Survey found: – 50 percent of physicians said ICD-10 would create a severe administrative problem – 75 percent agreed that it will unnecessarily complicate the coding process icd10charts.com is a collection of free ICD-10 resources to help with the implementation process, supported by funding from the Physicians Foundation icd10charts.com 10
