Working with Adobe Illustrator and 3ds Max
Open Adobe Illustrator Open up a new file in Illustrator Students that are more familiar with Illustrator may have to assist those who do not have experience with it.
Use the text tool Create a logo for yourself, your group or band, or some organization. Use the text tool Use a very simple font for this Check next slide for a sample
Sample 1
Adding Shapes You can add shapes by either using the default rectangle or by pressing down on the little triangle in the corner and getting other shapes. Sample on next slide
Keep it fairly simple
Saving is important!!-2 steps This is step 1 Save your file in the lowest version of Illustrator that you can. Go to File> –export> –Illustrator Legacy> If this doesn’t pop up, just make sure you get to the panel on the next slide to save it as a version 3 document
Saving is important, Step 2 Choose Version 3 when the version menu opens
Now in 3dsmax Open the program and open a new file Then go to import to import the Illustrator file
In the AI Import panel Select Completely replace current scene Click OK
In the Shape Import panel You could choose multiple objects if you wanted to work on them separately, but for the purposes of this class, let’s simplify things and choose single object
This way max will treat the whole thing as one object and apply effects to the whole object Note-This is not the same logo-It is the sample provided by the author
Select it and go to modifier list and choose Bevel Note this is set on Editable Spline
Choose Bevel again You may have to use the hand tool to scroll down on the list
With the hand tool scroll down until you get to the bevel values. Pump up the height a bit and wahla! Instantly you have a 3-D Logo
Saving You may mess with it a bit more to see what you can do to it. Save your work in your i-drive Tomorrow we will work with text bevels abit more. You may work on your characters or some other worthy endeavor if you finish early. Be Good and Good things will follow.
