The outside hand holds the bottom part of the paddle.

How many people can a dragon boat hold? STEERSPERSON, 20 PADDLERS and 1 DRUMMER

Two people can sit on one bench. Front Back STROKES - leads the boat (confident and light paddlers) ENGINE ROOM – the strongest and the heavies sit here FRONT THREE BACK THREE

 Line up according to your bench order.  Know your bench mates name.  You must stay in this order until you get into the boat.

 People must load the boat one bench at a time. (Listen for instructions.)  When you get in the boat, sit on the bench, push your hips to the gunnels and push your feet against the foot rest. bench Foot rest gunnels

“Paddle’s up” = get ready The paddles are just above the water. They are not in the water.

 “Take it away”- start paddling  “Let it ride”- stop paddling and take your paddles out of the water.
