Students are encouraged to read books at home and take tests at school in the mornings. As soon as they have taken a test they can return the book and check out another one. AR GOAL for this year is 20 points by the end of school. At this time in the year each child should have at least 4 points.
Homework comes from the Harcourt Reading program. This is High-Frequency word practice and spelling. Helping your child sound out words is always beneficial. We sound out by singing the sounds. You can ALWAYS do addition and subtraction flash cards. All students need help in this area. We need to get quick and fluent.
Students change their color when a negative consequence is needed. This is time off of their recess by walking laps. Hawk Bucks and classroom tickets are given to students when they are caught being good, on task, following directions, etc. I also use nickels to earn for good behavior in the classroom. Students that earn money for good behavior through the week can “buy” a special activity on Fridays as well or receive Hawk Bucks. Students will be going to the Hawk Buck Store every other week to cash in for prizes.
