The rescue of Abu Simbel The temple of Abu Simbel was in danger, because the Aswan High Dam would be built near the temple. In order to build the dam, we also needed a new large lake beside the dam. The water level of the new lake would go up, so the temple would be covered by the waters of the new lake. The engineers decided to move the whole temple stone by stone, and rebuild it above the water level of the new lake. At last, the project was successfully completed.
