Short Story Title HERE Author Name HERE Genre & Publication Year HERE Group member names HERE NOTE: You MAY change the template/fonts/colors/design if time permits; the first priority is the CONTENT & REQUIREMENTS of the presentation

Author ● Insert relevant biographical information here, focusing mostly on his/her life as a short story writer (or anything relevant to THIS short story)

Our Opinion of the Story State EITHER the group’s unanimous opinion, OR each group member’s different opinion(s)

Comparison to other Fiction Compare and contrast your story to another book OR short story, which CAN include other short stories in this unit. ●How does the structure compare to other fiction? ●What is interesting about the genre, style, dialogue, main character, plot, etc.? ●List both similarities AND differences

Non-fiction Connection Mention a non-fiction topic that relates to this story somehow, either because this story helps TEACH US about the topic, or because the topic helps us understand the STORY better. ● EXAMPLE TOPICS (you’re not limited to this list...) o The Lottery: history of dystopian genre o All Summer: What Venus is like o The Tell-Tale Heart: Poe, Gothic Lit., Dark Romanticism, Insanity o The Monkey’s Paw: Luck charms, wish legends, British colonialism in India o The Lady or the Tiger: The Roman Colosseum o The Bet: Chekov, Russian Lit o The Story of an Hour: Feminism, Women’s Rights, Patriarchy o The Most Dangerous Game: Hunting Laws, Survival Techniques, Fight-or- Flight reactions

Author’s Theme/Message State what you think the author is expressing as his/her theme, message, or moral, AND WHY. ● You can EITHER analyze a quote OR paraphrase a specific moment of the story that counts as proof of your theme. ● You may NOT say “there is no theme”, or that it’s unclear, or that there are six of them. Choose and defend one.

Quotes ● Famous Quote: “State a quote that is famous”(#), and then verbally or in writing, explain it. ● Difficult part: “Quote”(#) or paraphrase(#) a specific moment in the story that was ambiguous or difficult, and provide your interpretation of what it says/means.

Literary Devices 1.Identify at least 5 of them. 2.Make sure they come from the provided list. 3.It is to YOUR advantage that you choose terms that haven’t already been used in another group’s presentation. (Fill up the list!) 4.You do not have to state the lit term’s definition. 5.Though you don’t have to provide the direct quote, specifically state EITHER an example/quote OR the specific moment when it occurred in the story.

OPTIONAL/EXCEED If you wish to exceed in CONTENT, you CAN also... ● Analyze and describe the writer’s style ● Give more background on the historical context for why/when it was written ● Analyze additional literary devices: foreshadowing, more symbols, plot structure, character types, dialogue, etc.

Questions for the Class 1.Prewrite at least 3 questions for the class that COULD be on the quiz. 2.You should focus on larger/complex questions, or even opinion-based questions. 3.During the presentation, make the class answer these! :-)

Q&A We are now happy to answer at least 3 questions that the class might have for us! Please ask us serious clarification questions that will help you understand the story better (and therefore do well on the quiz).

Thank you for listening! Good luck on the quiz!
