Ronald McNair Elementary School RMES Steppers (4 th and 5 th graders) Step Team Tuesday’s from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Miss Bullock’s Room (11)

What is a Step Team ? A step team is a dance team that uses hands, feet, and other body parts to create rhythm and beats!

Why Do We Step? Our Motto is…Step Higher! We step to: – build character (responsibility and team- building) and self-esteem! – show our commitment to our school and teammates. – make new friends. – exercise in a fun way!

Attendance You are making a commitment by choice to be on this team. You are expected to come to practice every week. I will let you know if there are any changes to the practice schedule. You are allowed to miss 3 practices (with a parent note). If you miss more than 3 practices, you will be asked to find another after school activity.

Practice Schedule 3:30- 3:45 Go to the bathroom after school, find your seat in room 11, and eat a snack that you brought from home. 3:45 -4:00 Get into formation to review and practice a previously learned step 4:00-4:15 Learn a new step 4:15- 4:20 A quick water break 4:20-4:40 Practice the new step 4:40-4:45 Review all steps and get reminders

Correct Clothing for Practice Wear pants or shorts Wear thick soled sneakers or hard soled boots DO NOT WEAR – Skirts – Thin-soled shoes like flip-flips or keds – Crocks

Performance We will practice 1 time each week to get ready for an end-of-the-year performance. We will perform in front of the school and possibly in front of another audience (TBD). The performances will be held in March and May (this may change)

Uniform Our uniform will be a custom-made shirt that you will get to keep. We will wear the shirt on top and blue jeans on the bottom. Please give a $5 donation by February to cover the cost of the uniform shirts.

End-of-the-Year Party To attend the end-of-the-year party you must: – Work hard at each practice! – Have a positive attitude at practice – Practice on your own at home! – Attend most practices. You cannot miss more than 3! – Perform in all performances with the team

Perfect Practice! We only meet once a week, which is not enough. You need to: – Practice hard at practice! – Practice at home! – Practice at recess! – Practice while you are walking home! – Practice with a buddy on the weekends! – Practice at home with your sister if she is on the team with you! – Practice in your dreams, while you brush your teeth, and while you’re standing at the bus stop.
