Employee Development Plan By: Montrice Lucas EIDT Training & Development April 20, 2014

Employee Development Beneficial Develop skills and increase knowledge about the company and its customers by interacting with more experienced organization member (p. 393).

Employee Development Beneficial Cross-trained employees to cover if someone leaves the company or advances in their career More effective and efficient use of workers’ time

Employee Development Beneficial Increased job satisfaction & productivity

Employee Development Initiatives Positive Organizational Scholarship (POS)- is an exceptional example of what company-wide employee development can do for a company, and how it can be beneficial. “It focuses explicitly on the positive states and processes that arise from, and result in, life-giving dynamics, optimal functioning, or enhanced capabilities and strengths. This approach focuses on both an individual’s and an organization’s strengths and virtues” (Pace, 2010 p.42). POS Domains of Excellence Virtuousness Positive Leadership (4 Strategies) Positive Climate, Positive Relationships, Positive Communication, & Positive Meaning

Employee Development Initiatives In the article (Pace, 2010 p.42) a physician billing department at a large community hospital in the central United States exercised a principle of POS through compassion for one of the employees who had lost three close relatives. They rallied together to get a formal system that allowed them to donate vacation and personal time for her to be off. Formal Education Offsite short courses Onsite short courses Lectures Business games & simulations Adventure Learning

Employee Development Initiatives Performance Appraisals and 360-Degree Feedback Systems Measure employees’ performance Provide differences between current performance and desired performance Develop action plans to improve performance Employees evaluated by peers, customers, their boss, and themselves
