How "The Globe" came to be In 1597, Cuthbert Burbage inherited the Theater but not the land. His lease ran out, so he tore the Theater down to build a new one. The new land lease was split in two: half to the Burbage brothers and half to five of the other "Chamberlain's Men", including Shakespeare.

HISTORY Built between Created by Cuthbert Burbage Opened in 1599 London's Bankside District During the Elizabethan era. Shakespeare's acting troupe, The Chamberlain's Men, acted in there.

Structure of The Globe Structure: octagonal, standing three stories high Seating: The Pit, the Yard, and the Galleries No lighting, few props Trap door, balcony Stage raised up five feet Straw roof could seat up to 3,000 people

The Destruction Burnt down on June 29, First London theater fire Cause: A cannon set off during King Henry VIII's performance, lit the roof of The Globe on fire. Burned to the ground with an hour

Restoration Project Rebuilt soon after the fire in 1614 Built by Burbage Brothers New tile roof (fire proof)

Conclusion The second globe was tore down in 1644 by Puritans that opposed theater plays. New Globe in London was opened in 1997 near the original location The original Globe theater hosted Shakespeare's most famous performances.
