What is the G.C.S 1. The Cummins Generator Drive Control System (GCS) is a computerized control system used to control a Full Authority Electronic (FAE) engine. The control uses the magnetic pickup (MPU) input as a speed reference and controls fuel pump, fuel rail, and timing rail pressures to maintain a steady engine speed. 2. The GCS is supplied with an engine on a base to an assembler who adds an alternator and a voltage regulator to create a complete generator set. 3. G-Drive engines are used in any application where a Cummins FAE engine is operating an alternator to produce an AC output voltage. 4. The GCS module monitors and controls only the engine parameters. The alternator warnings and shutdowns must be controlled by a separate voltage regulator assembly.

Common Warning Common Alarm There are five LEDs in the “window” of the GCS Module Four are Shutdown LEDs (RED). and one is a Warning LED (ORANGE). The Shutdown LEDs are: Common Shutdown Low Oil Pressure High Engine Temperature Overspeed The Common Warning LED lights whenever there is a warning condition. Generator Control System Hardware. A remote Customer Communication device ( Modbus) is available if required.

E.C.M Hardware Interconnections

Inpower Service Software In-Power requires the use of a hardware lock or “dongle” All copies of In-Power can make adjustments or “trims”.. There are two types of dongle which are sold with InPower software: Pro and standard. Pro dongle can download new calibrations to a GCS Module. This will change the operation of the generator set engine.
