Outline Meetings PDP Personal Library Audit Teaching sessions Reflection Assessments: – SLE – CBD – TAB – Core Procedures – Developing the Clinical teacher Additional sections Linking Miscellaneous info Sign off

Meetings Minimum of 2 per placement with both educational and clinical supervisors: – Beginning of placement: Discuss PDP and aims for placement – End of placement: Review PDP – has it been achieved? Assessments End of year meeting with educational supervisor – sign off meeting.

“Personal development plan” (PDP) Required for each start-of-rotation meeting Should be reviewed at end-of-rotation meeting Set out aims specific to that attachment » Clinical » Anything else (eg teaching, audit, courses) Keep it short and achievable SMART goal setting

“Personal library” Place to keep documents which provide evidence of training / achievement » Eg audit reports, certificates, presentations given, teaching material prepared Use it as much or as little as you like

“Audit” Compulsory to do one per year Start early Does not need to be huge or complicated Good to be able to complete audit cycle if possible

Teaching sessions attended Should, in theory, cover whole curriculum (including the bits that are not easy to cover elsewhere) 70% attendance required over course of whole year » If not achieved, additional elearning required » If can’t attend let Virginia Poole know Briefly record each session in “Teaching” section » Essential for sign off » Means you can link to it » Record session title, date and anything particularly memorable » Does not need to be long and detailed Record other teaching too eg departmental

“Reflection” Use it in whatever way suits you – no specific requirements Can be useful to reflect on complex / difficult cases Way of learning from mistakes Useful for providing evidence for bits of the curriculum you might otherwise have missed Various different headings on different forms - use whichever suits you

Assessments 1.TAB – 2 per year – 10 people required – Looks at 4 main aspects: Professionalism Communication skills Team-working Accessibility

Assessments 2.SLE DOPs – optional supplement to Mini-Cex Additional procedures not covered in core skills e.g. chest drains, LP’s, minor ops etc. Mini-Cex – min of 3 per 4 month placement Observed clinical encounter: Hx/Dx/Ex/Rx/Communication/D-c planning CBD – min of 2 per 4 month placement Record keeping/medical assessment/Ix & referral/ Rx/ Follow up/ Professionalism

Assessments 3.Core procedures – 15 core procedures – Min of one assessment for each 4.Developing the Clinical teacher – 1 per year – Preparation & Setting, Teaching, Interaction and Knowledge.

Other sections All fairly self-explanatory Don’t worry if you don’t have anything in some sections “Tasters” “Certificates and exams” » Make sure you upload copy of ILS / ALS certificate and get it “countersigned” by your educational supervisor. “Courses and seminars attended” “Presentations”

Linking Sign off last year required linking evidence to prove that you have addressed all areas of the curriculum Link at least one item of evidence (assessment, reflection, document…) to each curriculum item Do it as you go along, otherwise it is very time-consuming

Miscellaneous info Other ePortfolio forms which have to be filled in for sign off: » “Declarations and agreements” » “Absences” » Upload evidence of completing GMC survey Can download portfolio if required » Potentially useful for interviews » System not very sophisticated and quite time-consuming You can still see / access your FY1 portfolio in FY2 Make sure you record things in the section for the correct rotation (Important for second rotation and beyond)

Thank you for listening If you have further questions, please feel free to us at
