Goal: I can use Mohls Scale to find the hardness of a mineral.
Some minerals are harder than others. Each mineral has a distinct hardness that ranges from very soft to very hard. In 1812, Friedrch Mohs developed a hardness scale based on ten common minerals. Mohs scale ranks minerals from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest (talc) and 10 being the hardest. (Diamond)
A harder mineral will scratch a softer one. A softer mineral will not scratch a harder one. An example: a mineral that will scratch quartz but will not scratch topaz has a hardness between 7 and 8.
