G2 OPERATIONS Directs, guides and coordinates: - Intelligence - Counterintelligence - SSO - SWO - Terrain team Coordinates with the PLEX and G3 for future LRS missions

G2 PLANS AND EXERCISE (PLEX) Plans and coordinates for: - Future LRS missions - Collection of current Intel - Dissemination of Intel - CI support before, during and After an operation - EW/OPSEC support to G3

ANALYSIS AND CONTROL ELEMENT (ACE) Works for division G2 G2 has operational control Provides the G2 - Intelligence - Counterintelligence - Collection management - All source analysis - EW analysis

TERRAIN TEAM Provides terrain products to division Completes the MCOO and COO Weather and environmental features

SECURITY BRANCH Responsible for overall OPSEC What is OPSEC?

SPECIAL SECURITY OFFICE (SSO) Responsible for SCI operations - Controls SCI billets - SCI “read on”/”read off” or Indoctrination Supervises the establishment of SCIFS AND T-SCIFS

SUMMARY Elements of the G2 staff Responsibilities of each section in the G2

QUESTIONS???

REVIEW Which section coordinates with the PLEX and G3 for future LRS missions? Which section provides collection management of G2 assets? Which section supervises the establishment of SCIFS?

THE ANALYSIS AND CONTROL ELEMENT (ACE)

ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVE (ELO) Action: Identify the organization and responsibilities of the Analysis and Control Element (ACE). Condition: Given an intelligence handout and group discussion in a classroom environment. Standard: Score 70% on a 50 question multiple choice test.

ANALYSIS CONTROL ELEMENT (ACE)

ACE ORGANIZATION Collection Management and Dissemination (CM&D) All Source Production Section (ASPS) Electronic Warfare section (EW) Counter-Intelligence and Analysis Section (CIAS) Operational Security Section (OPSEC)

COLLECTION MANAGEMENT AND DISSEMINATION (CM&D) Identifies what information must be collected and who collects it. Provides timely and efficient tasking. Answers the commanders PIR.

ALL SOURCE PRODUCTION SECTION (ASPS) Performs Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) Works with CM&D to develop SIRS and SORS. Assists the G2 in developing the Intel Estimate Develops situation and targeting data Provides demographics/area studies for Mission planning folders

ELECTRONIC WARFARE (EW) Recommends and explains how to use EW to support the division Maintains a database of threat EW emitters SIGINT processing and reporting Primary SIGINT node at division Receives, processes and forwards SIGINT through the CM&D to ASPS and higher

COUNTERINTELLIGENCE ANALYSIS SECTION (CIAS) Develops CI requirements Co-located with the asps CM&D tasks CI assets

OPERATIONS/OPSEC Works with G2 Performs OPSEC management functions Implements commander’s OPSEC program OPSEC is EVERYONE’S responsibility

INTELLIGENCE REQUIREMENT (IR) Requirement for intelligence to fill a gap in the commanders knowledge and understanding of the situation Reduce uncertainties on the battlefield Two categories: - PIR - Priority Intelligence Requirement - IR - Intelligence Requirement

PRIORITY INTELLIGENCE REQUIREMENT (PIR) Associated with a decision that will affect the overall success of the command’s mission Only the commander designates G2 recommends PIR is usually in the form of a question Information is needed to answer the PIR

EXAMPLE PIR Will the 3rd Tank Division enter NAI 8 or NAI 9 NLT 291900lOCT00? “Who, what, when and where”

SPECIFIC INFORMATION REQUIREMENT (SIR) Information required to answer all or part Of a PIR/IR Describes the information required, the location and time during which it can be Collected Each IR/PIR usually generates sets of SIRS

EXAMPLE SIRs Will more than 17 BRDM-2s subordinate to the 3rd Tank Division or its regiments pass through NAI 8 between 011000l- 030400l? Will more than 38 artillery weapons subordinate to the 3rd Tank Division enter NAI 8 or NAI 9 between 011000l- 020300l?

SPECIFIC ORDER OR REQUEST (SOR) Any order or request that generates planning and execution of a collection mission or analysis SORS sent to subordinate units are orders SORS sent to other commands are requests Developed from detailed SIRS Usually formed in SOR sets to answer one SOR

EXAMPLE SORs SOR 1a. Report the presence of BRDM reconnaissance vehicles in NAI 8 or NAI 9 between 011000l-020300l (LTIOV: 021000l). SOR 1b. Report the presence of communications nodes associated with recon elements of the 3rd Tank Div in NAI 8 between 011000l-020300l (LTIOV: 021000l).

SUMMARY Elements of the ACE Responsibilities of each section in the ACE IR, PIR, SIR and SOR
