WHY IS USING GOOD KEYBOARDING TECHNIQUE IMPORTANT?  The better your technique:  The faster you will type  The more accurately you will type  The more efficiently you will be  The less likely you will cause physical damage to yourself.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Body Position  Sit up straight.  Elbows at sides.  Center yourself with the computer keyboard

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Keyboard Position  Is flat on the desk  Is on the edge of the table  Typist has 1 hand span distance between edge of desk and stomach

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Hand Position  Fingers are slightly curved on home row  Wrists are up, not resting on desk or keyboard  Thumbs are resting close to each other on the space bar keys-hand-position.svg.png

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Finger Technique  Use home row as a base for your fingers

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Finger Technique  Use the correct finger for the correct keys colour_for-finger-positions.svg.png

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Finger Technique  Look at what you are typing, not at your fingers.  You will become a faster typist if you do not look at your fingers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO HAVE GOOD TECHNIQUE?  Typing Rhythm  Establish a good, natural rhythm.  Practice as often as possible.  Be patient.

WHEN CAN SOMEONE START LEARNING TO TYPE?  A person can start learning to type when the following conditions exist:  A child can sit still long enough to practice  Can reach the keyboard and use good technique  Knows the letters of the alphabet  A child could start learning as young as kindergarten on_mark.svg/450px-Orange_question_mark.svg.png

SUMMARY  Good technique is the following:  80% Technique  Keyboarding, hand and finger position  Rhythm  10% Accuracy  10% Speed  Be patient and practice Tomorrow we will learn more about keyboarding stamina.
