TOURISM AS A NEW CHALLENGE Economic and business interests tourism represents nowadays 5% of the European GDP provides 6% of employment with more than 2 million companies in Europe Societal interests due to the fact that any action on tourist destinations will affect directly both citizens living in this area AND tourists visiting it Technical challenges since tourism is a complex, geographically bounded and culturally diverse sector in which future internet technologies have an obvious stakeholder and can be spread along all the value chain

Platja de Palma Destination

AXIS Comprehensive revalorization of the urban system Innovative and leader tourist positioning (business) Improvement of life conditions for residents and workers (user-centric) Cutback of the local and global ecological charge Adjustment to the climate change A digital space for everybody Towards a new governance for the change

DESTINATION HUB Holistic Concept City as a Whole Citizen Involvement and Participation Sum up (energy + transport + health + security + …) System of Systems: common platform cloud based Key success factor

Smart Destinations: Addressing European Mobility and Multiculturalism through the FI On the one hand, the growing trend of a healthier and wealthier ageing population with plenty of free time to travel demand new services focused on providing easily accessible and natural interactions in non usual environments On the other hand, the integration of temporal labor travelers of different statuses, cultures and ethnicities must also be taken into account when rethinking the Future Internet and all its potential travel and tourism applications. A new way to create, promote and consume services should be considered as part of the concept of online human centric services, including challenges of short-time visitors.

FROM SMART CITIES TO SMART DESTINATIONS Future Internet services, fully inclusive and accessible by non-usual residents (i.e. travelers) anytime anywhere Multicultural integration for visitors in non familiar destinations Overcoming geographical barriers to mobility and achievement of particular tourism related purposes
