CECIMO – Where manufacturing begins Market surveillance, innovation and machine tool industry Innovation usually occurs in countries or regions with high level of economic development and high production standards. Technology, human resources, institutions, manufacturing capacity and a market which allows trading of high cost products are crucial elements of an innovation-friendly environment. Internal market regulations are designed to ensure a marketplace where products below certain standards cannot be placed on the market and traded. Ineffective market surveillance leads to an uneven playing field in which low cost products are rewarded and race-to-the-bottom is encouraged.

CECIMO – Where manufacturing begins Ineffective enforcement of EU regulations transfer European industry’s innovation capacity to non-European suppliers. Amid fierce competition and an uneven global playing field, some non-European competitors are climbing the value chain with the help of unfair practices. We cannot afford to lose our engineering expertise and innovation capacity to competitors. We need to maintain knowledge-intensive manufacturing industries in Europe to build a competitive knowledge- based economy. Internal market rules need to be adapted to the new global business environment. We have to start from market surveillance! Market surveillance, innovation and machine tool industry
