Sam Brannan An Important Figure During the Gold Rush Sample by: Mrs. Kunkle

Sam Brannan

He was born in Saco, Maine on March 2, His parents are Thomas and Sarah Emery Brannan. He learned how to print newspapers.

Before the Gold Rush He became a publisher of a San Francisco newspaper. He started a general store on John Sutter’s lHe printed Morman newspapers in New York. and.

During the Gold Rush When gold was found on the John Sutter’s land, Sam Brannan used it to his advantage. He told lots of people so that they would come to Sutter’s Mill and his store. He sold goods to the miners and even made $5,000 in one day! He then became a millionaire!

After the Gold Rush Became a wealthy landowner. Made several banks, railroads, and telegraph companies. When his wife divorced him, he lost most of his money. He lost most of his property and had to pay back debts.

Did Sam Brannan strike it rich? At first, Sam Brannan struck rich. Not by mining gold, but by selling goods to miners. However, he lost all of his wealth and died a poor man.
