 We use scientific notation to let us write really small numbers or really big numbers.  Also its an easier way to calculate them in scientific notation.

 What you would do is you would take the first two digits of your number and place a decimal between them and put all the other numbers behind that, then you would multiply how many number that are behind the decimal and put it as an exponent of ten. It should equal the original number. (the base will always be ten)  Ex: 12 = 1.2 = 1.2x10  Ex: 200 = 2.00= 2.00x10 2  Ex: 500 = 5.00= 5.00x10 2

 First count the numbers behind the decimal that will be the exponent. If your standard form is a decimal then your exponents will be negative. (the base will always be ten)  = 253 x 10 -6

 You would just multiple the scientific notation by ten and its power. Another easy way is how many exponents there are you will move the decimal to the right by how many exponents you have.  2.50x10 2 = 250

 It’s the same way as the positive exponent except your moving the decimal over to the left by how many exponents you have.  6.00x10 -6 =.0600
