Southern Europe by Francesca M.

Italy is famous for it’s ice cream called Gelato.

In 1883, an Italian writer named Carlo Collodi, met a naughty boy who inspired his story “Pinocchio”.

Venice is a city of islands. Gondolas are boats used to travel the city’s canals.

The Maltese cross was the banner carried by knights who once lived on the island Malta. Some firefighters still use this symbol of strength and kindness.

In Italy during the 1300s, there was a rediscovery of art and learning called the Renaissance. Great artist, sculptors, architects, writers, and thinkers lived in Italy during this time.

San Marino is a tiny country on a mountain top surrounded by Italy.

The learning tower of Pisa is a famous marble tower that tips to the side.

Naples is considered the birthplace of pizza.

Italy makes and exports more than 420 kinds of pasta.
